Bill Lang

Bill Lang founded the company after a successful career in the education, corporate and entrepreneurial sectors. Bill has worked in the UK, USA, Australia, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa. Bill was born in Australia and educated at The University of Melbourne and Harvard Business School.

Prior to founding Bill Lang International, Bill worked internationally as a marketing strategist and management consultant with KPMG, AXA, Macquarie Bank and McKinsey & Company. He co-founded the internet technology company Sharinga Networks Inc, in Silicon Valley, in a multi million joint venture with AT&T and British Telecom.

As a Melbourne University student in the early 80’s, Bill built the Doctor Dog hot dog business before completing an MBA at Harvard Business School where he was awarded with the highest academic honours as a Baker Scholar.  For more information on Bill see his full profile below.


Bill Lang’s personal business career spans more than 20 years in a range of very successful businesses.

Prior to founding Bill Lang International, Bill was a co-founder of IMSG a holding company that created Freeonline and Sharinga Networks Inc. As an Executive Director he was responsible for the strategy and corporate development of each company culminating in $120m global alliance with Concert Communications Company (the global joint venture of AT&T and British Telecom). He moved to San Francisco in 2000 to establish the global head office of Sharinga Networks Inc.

In 1993 Bill was the founder of Customer Management Strategy & Systems, a consulting business managing strategic marketing and management development projects for major corporations which included the Commonwealth Bank, National Mutual, National Australia Bank, ANZ Bank, Advance Bank, RACV, NZI, Australia Post and Monash University.

Formerly Bill worked with:

  • McKinsey & Company where he worked as a business analyst and was a member of their International Finance Faculty
  • National Mutual (now AXA Australasia) as a marketing strategy executive
  • Macquarie Bank as a corporate finance associate
  • Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) as a consultant
  • The University of Melbourne as a member of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce.

While working with these firms Bill served corporations in the financial services, leisure and tourism, automobile, telecommunications, media, manufacturing and insurance industries. Each project involved detailed reviews of industry structure and the conduct and financial performance of competitors, the development of corporate and business strategy and in most cases the development of marketing and customer relationship management strategies.

While working with KPMG and McKinsey & Company, Bill managed the recruitment and selection process and the professional development of university graduates.

As a student at The University of Melbourne he co-founded Doctor Dog, a fast food business in Melbourne.

Education:

  • Bill holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School with highest academic honours as a Baker Scholar.
  • He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States, won the Macquarie Bank Scholarship to attend Harvard and while at Harvard became one of two Proctor and Gamble International Fellows in 1990.
  • He graduated from The University of Melbourne with a combined Commerce/Law (Hons) degree in 1986.
  • He received numerous academic awards from The University of Melbourne in both the Commerce and Law faculties.
  • In 1983 he received a British Australian Vocational Exchange award to work in London with Peat Marwick and Mitchell.
  • He was educated at St Patrick's College Ballarat and resided at Newman College while attending The University of Melbourne.
